Students in Journalism will write a feature article on a topic of their choice. The structure of a feature article is very similar to that of a traditional piece of reporting, but you will have more freedom to use language that elicits emotion. Human Interest stories are a common type of feature article. Typical structure is as follows:

- A clever, catchy, attention grabbing, and visually interesting title. It’s usually best to start with the introduction and body, and then see if an interesting title presents itself.
- An introduction that grabs the reader’s attention and hooks them in. Use drama, emotion, quotes, rhetorical questions, alliteration, and/or metaphors.
- A body that sticks to the main ideas and answers any questions raised by the introduction. Try to maintain the same tone / atmosphere / distinctive voice throughout the article.
- A conclusion that will help the reader remember the article. End with a strong punch line.
